MACON, Ga. – After FGCU (12-5) won four out of its five games at the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, junior catcher Chelsea Zgrabik (Venice, Fla./Venice HS) was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
This marks the second time Zgrabik has been named A-Sun Player of the Week in her career, first time in 2013, with the last time being Apr. 23 during the 2012 season.
The 2013 A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year showed out during the three-day event in Clearwater with a day one performance that garnered attention from around the Eddie C. Moore Complex as Zgrabik hit two home runs, for four RBI in the first game of the day for FGCU against Western Michigan (Mar. 1).
In day three of the invitational, the Green and Blue took on Maine (Mar. 3) and Zgrabik stole the show as she hit a grand slam along with a base hit to drive in six of the eight FGCU runs in the game. Her performance led the Eagles to an 8-0 mercy rule victory in five innings. Zgrabik finished the invitational with three home runs, 13 RBI and a slugging percentage of 1.067.
The Green and Blue are headed out west to California for a road-trip that will consist of seven games in five days, starting with a doubleheader at St. Mary’s in Moraga, Calif. on Wednesday, March 6 at 1:00 p.m. EST.
