FORT MYERS, Fla. – There are still positions available for FGCU softball's winter camp. The FGCU softball camp for experienced softball players, ages 13 and older will take place Nov. 23 and 24. FGCU head coach Dave Deiros will host the camp, while assistant coach Alycia Bachkora and members of the 2014 squad will assist with instruction.
The camp will provide well-rounded instruction of the game with an enjoyable and rewarding experience for each camper. The camper-to-instructor ratio will be kept low in order to provide the best possible instruction and attention to each camper. The camp will be split into four sessions over a two-day period—November 23 and 24, 2013.
The schedule is listed below:
• Advanced Hitting - Saturday, November 23 - 9 a.m.-noon
• Advanced Pitching - Saturday, November 23 - 1-4 p.m.
• Advanced Hitting - Sunday, November 24 - 9 a.m.-noon
• Advanced Defense - Sunday, November 24 - 1-4 p.m.
The cost of the camp is $65 for one session, with a price of $125 for two sessions, $185 for three and all four sessions at $235. There will be discounts for siblings and team members with a minimum of four players from the same team. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 20.
The advanced hitting sessions will teach the experienced softball player the correct mechanics and mental approach necessary to be a successful batter, slapper, bunter, and base runner. This clinic is designed for the advanced hitter who will be evaluated using a variety of techniques. The clinic will incorporate hitting drills designed to accelerate skill levels.
The advanced pitching session will review the fundamentals required to throw a pitch correctly, with the spin and velocity as on target as possible. Campers will work on locating all pitches as well as finding the pitch each player throws best.
The defensive session will teach the experienced softball player the necessary fundamentals to become a solid and reliable defender. Campers will develop proper mechanics in throwing, receiving, and fielding. Advanced individual work at a player’s specific position, including catchers, will be incorporated with the skills utilized at these positions.

Dave Deiros is the first and only softball coach in FGCU history. With a record of 456-185-2 in ten seasons, Deiros holds a win percentage of .712. Deiros coached the Eagles to a record of 200-100 in their first six seasons of Division I competition and led the team to the 2008 and 2012 regular season Atlantic Sun championships. The team also won the conference tournament in 2012 before picking up its first NCAA Regional win over No. 5 Florida in the first round. In six years as a Division I competitor, the team has never finished below third place in conference and has been ranked as high as ninth in the NCAA Top 30 poll (2009).
