@FGCUEagles Continue To Achieve In The Classroom With Record Numbers
FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU Athletics continues to epitomize what embodies a student-athlete as the Eagles extended their outstanding performance in the classroom with a record-tying 3.31 semester GPA and record-breaking 3.33 cumulative GPA for the fall of 2013.
FGCU student-athletes exceeded the FGCU undergraduate semester mark (3.02) for the 10th consecutive semester and 14 of the past 15 semesters. Additionally, over the course of the fall academic semester, the majority of FGCU’s 15 teams increased their overall GPA from where it stood at the end of the spring term.
Individually, 27 of FGCU’s student-athletes finished with a 4.0 GPA for the semester, representing more than 10 percent of the entire student-athlete body with a perfect grade for the term. Among the overall population of 257 student-athletes, nearly 77 percent (199) posted a fall GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 40 percent (107) achieved a GPA of 3.5 or above.
“We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for the terrific effort they continue to put forth in the classroom while undertaking the demands of a Division-I schedule,” said Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh. “Their devotion to succeeding in the classroom, in athletic competitions and in the community is a source of pride for not only the department but for the entire University.
“In particular, I would like to recognize Athletic Academic Director Brian Boveington and the rest of our exemplary athletic academic advising staff,” Kavanagh continued. “These significant results remain a byproduct of the diligent efforts of the fine young men and women in our program, as well as the daily contributions by our coaches, academic advising units and FGCU’s quality faculty.”
In another testament to the student-athletes, coaches, support staff and faculty at FGCU, 48 percent of the student-athletes (124) improved their term GPA from the spring 2013 to fall 2013, with the average improvement being just above .35.
