FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU Athletics is pleased to unveil ‘Birds Eye View’ as the official blog of the Eagles, giving fans a unique perspective into news and information about each of the Green and Blue’s 15 teams. Fans can access the blog by logging on to FGCUEaglesEye.com.
The blog is intended to offer fans insight into each program beyond the box score and field of play, while also offering commentary and opinions not seen on any other official FGCU platforms. Fans have the ability to sign up to receive each post delivered directly to their email inbox by clicking the “follow” icon at the bottom of the site, and can interact by leaving comments on each post.
“Birds Eye View helps us fill a void in FGCU Athletics coverage because many of the topics will generally be too broad to fit within the confines of a tweet or Facebook post, but at the same time they don’t have an appropriate place on FGCUAthletics.com,” said Jason MacBain, Director of Athletics Communication. “The blog format also allows for more social commentary in a format not currently utilized. Like all blogs, the site is a work-in-progress and we’re looking forward to continually enhancing the content, in addition to the aesthetic appeal of the page.”
Currently four posts comprise the blog, beginning with a post regarding FGCU’s top spot in the chase for the Atlantic Sun Conference’s All-Sports Championship for the second straight year. Fans can also find information regarding former men’s basketball player Sherwood Brown, a glimpse into the community service work done by the softball team and a look back at the final seconds of the men’s basketball team’s game at USF in which a full-court effort was waved off.
With applications to the university up roughly 35 percent from the same time a year ago and merchandise sales up 145 percent from the previous year, support for FGCU is at an all-time high, which has led to fans, alumni and students yearning for more information than ever before. Birds Eye View is the first of many new initiatives being created to cater to that demand, and fans can expect more platforms to be announced throughout the spring and summer.
