NAPLES, Fla. – FGCU is pleased to invite the public to its 2nd Annual Golf Event at the private Hideout Golf Club on Tuesday, May 6. The event will be a friendly competition among players and a fundraiser to help benefit FGCU Athletics.
With a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start, the shamble-formatted outing – similar to a scramble – is being generously sponsored by Blauch & Associates, B & I Contractors and Wholesale Screen Printing. The cost of a foursome for golf only is $1,500, but a special “Dunk City” package can also be purchased for $1,900, which includes golf, all on-course games and a commemorative ball marker.
Opening in 2000, Hideout is a private 18-hole club that is home to 250 members. With a par-72 course, its 6,931 yards of play is well known for its fast greens and quick play. Hideout, located at 3025 Brantley Blvd., was built with the purpose of providing a challenge course to a scratch golfer, but enjoyable and playable for the high-handicapped golfer.
In a shamble format each golfer tees off and the best shot is selected, but from that point, each golfer plays his or her own ball until it is holed out. Those wanting to participate in the event, or looking for more information, can contact Graham Diemer, Director of Athletics Advancement, by calling (239) 590-7107 or emailing EaglesClub@fgcu.edu.
“The amazing generosity extended by Moe Kent and his wonderful staff at The Hideout make this event enjoyable for all and a great fundraiser in Collier County for FGCU Athletics,” Diemer said. “We can’t thank our participants enough for making this year’s event another huge success. We look forward to a great day on a beautiful golf course with our supporters.”
All proceeds will go toward supporting FGCU Athletics as the Eagles – who are in the lower-third among all Division-I athletics operating budgets – seek to continue to provide an outstanding experience for student-athletes while showcasing an exceptional product in each of the university’s 15 D-I programs. Since joining the D-I ranks in 2007-08, FGCU has already won an incredible 35 conference regular season and tournament titles as a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference and Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association.
Furthermore, in only 2+ years of D-I postseason eligibility, the Eagles have sent eight teams to NCAA tournaments, while men’s golf and swimming have had at least one individual participate in their respective NCAA Championship each year. So far in 2013-14, FGCU has claimed regular-season A-Sun championships in men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s basketball and women’s basketball – the latter of which took home a tournament championship as well. Additionally, Emma Svensson and Kira Toussaint helped the swimming program finish 32nd in the nation following competition at the NCAA Championship.
