MACON, Ga. – After leading the FGCU softball team to three wins this weekend, senior Jessica Barnes (Winter Haven, Fla./Haines City High School) earned Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors, as announced by the conference on Monday. The accolade is Barnes’ third of her career and first this season.
Barnes produced an average of .474 on the week with nine hits in 19 at bats. She began the week with a double in the first game against FAU and went on to add two home runs with three RBI. She also crossed the plate five times for the Eagles.
Both of Barnes’ homeruns came against Atlantic Sun foe Jacksonville in crucial conference games.
Barnes is currently averaging .344 on the season with eight homeruns and 14 RBI. The center fielder holds a fielding percentage of .955 with 58 put outs and five assists.
The senior’s offensive ability helped the Eagles improve to 25-21-1 on the season and move to 8-10 in conference play.
Barnes and the Eagles will be back in action this weekend as the host the University of North Florida in a three-game series at the FGCU Softball Complex.
