FORT MYERS, Fla. – After another successful season in 2014, FGCU softball Head Coach David Deiros announced the addition of three student-athletes to the incoming class.  These three athletes will join 11 previously signed players to form the largest recruit class since the inaugural 2002-003 season and will join the Eagles for the 2014-15 academic year.

Courtney Noonan and Ashley Swiderski signed National letters of Intent to join FGCU this fall, while Ashley Dobson will become an Eagle after transferring from Tallahassee Community College.  The incoming class now includes 12 athletes from Florida, one from New Jersey and one from Indiana.

Courtney Noonan, LHP (Palm City, Fla.)

Noonan, a native of Palm City, Fla., maintained an ERA of 2.40 with a record of 10-6 in the circle as a junior.  The lefty struck out 85 batters with just 17 walks in 95 innings and was named All-Area and Third Team 7A All-State for her success.  Noonan will join the Eagles as the program’s first left-handed pitcher since making the jump to Division I status.  At the plate, Noonan knocked in 26 runs and hit .408 to help lead Stuart Martin County High School to its third-consecutive regional quarterfinal appearanc.  Under the aid of head coach Katherine Gladding, Noonan continued to excel as a senior and finished her career with a batting average of over .300.

DEIROS ON NOONAN: "Courtney is going to add some flexibility and versatility to our pitching staff.  She is a very good athlete and will fit in very well with our defensive philosophy."

Ashley Swiderski , SS (Naples, Fla.)

Swiderski will join the Eagles as an infielder and power hitter.  The local product was named the Naples Daily News Softball Player of the Year after hitting .444 this season with eight doubles, 10 triples, five homeruns and 37 RBI this spring.  As a junior, Swiderski hit .430 with five homeruns and 23 RBI and was named First-Team All-State for the third-consecutive season.  Under the direction of coach Tom Resop, Swiderski was named All-Area and All-State in all four years of her high school career and led the Barron Collier High School Cougars to the regional quarterfinal this season.  Swiderski finished her career with a .413 average, 17 homeruns and 138 hits.

DEIROS ON SWIDERSKI: "We are very fortunate to have such a talented and accomplished player as Ashley on our team.  First and foremost, she can hit for power and average and runs extremely well – she will be an impact player on the field.  Most importantly, I have known her for many years and know that she is a great person and a great teammate."

Ashley Dobson, RHP (Wheatfield, Ind.)

After a tremendous high school and junior college career, Dobson will add to the Eagles’ pitching staff for the 2015 season.  Dobson went 27-14 in two seasons at Tallahassee Community College with 207 strikeouts in 278.1 innings pitched.  She recorded 33 complete games during her career and was tabbed with state-wide and national accolades for her performances in the circle.  This season, the 5’10 righty went 19-7 with 111 strikeouts and maintained an impressive ERA of 1.74.  Under Dobson’s leadership, TCC won a state championship and earned the no. 3 seed in the NJCAA National Tournament in their first national championship berth in 20 years.

As a high school player at Kankakee Valley High School, Dobson was a three-time First Team All-Area and All-Conference award winner.  She also earned All-State accolades as an upperclassmen with First-Team distinction as a senior.

DEIROS ON DOBSON: “Ashley has been a winner in the circle at all levels.  She brings a tremendous amount of experience and tenacity to our pitching staff. I expect her to make an immediate impact for us."
