Muse and Kohler Win Flight Title on Final Day of Inaugural A-Sun Championship

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FGCU sand volleyball team picked up a pairs championship Sunday afternoon on the final day of the 2012 Atlantic Sun Sand Volleyball Championship at the Dolphin Beach Volleyball Complex.
The Green and Blue posted a 2-2 record in the two-day team competition and finished third in the inaugural 2012 A-Sun Sand Volleyball Team Championship on Saturday.

FGCU’s tandem of redshirt junior Brooke Kohler (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter HS/Clemson) and junior Brittany Muse (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto County HS) claimed the Flight #3 championship. The Eagles' #3 pair also earned All-Tournament Team honors and went 5-1 on the weekend.

In addition, FGCU had four of its five pairs advance to the championship match in their respective flight.

UNF’s head coach Steve Loeswick was named Coach of the Year and the Ospreys’ #1 pair of Anna Budinska and Dagnija Medina, who earned the Flight #1 championship, earned Pair of the Year honors.

The Osprey’s tandem of Paige Pridgeon and Cameron McGuire claimed the title at #4, while Stetson’s flight champions included the #5 pair of Kaylee Ream and Savannah Byl and the #2 pair of Alexa Stonish and Maren Rygh. The Hatters’ Julie Bassett claimed Freshman of the Year Honors.
UNF made program and national history with the win, as the A-Sun Championship is the first sand volleyball conference championship in NCAA Division I history.
