FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU sand volleyball squad will make its program debut Saturday, March 17 at 9:30 a.m. against Atlantic Sun Conference foe Stetson at the Stetson Sand Volleyball Complex.

Each sand competition will consist of five matches between pairs. The winning team will need to win three matches in a best-of-five format. The separate matches will be conducted as best-of-three set competitions, with rally scoring to 21 in the first two sets and to 15 in the third. Teams must win by at least two points in all cases.

Sand volleyball is in its first season on the list of NCAA Emerging Sports for Women; FGCU is one of five Atlantic Sun Conference schools (along with Jacksonville, North Florida, Stetson and Mercer) to adopt the sport in Year 1; as such the A-Sun will be the first NCAA Division I conference to sponsor a championship for the sport. The inaugural A-Sun Sand Volleyball Championships are set for April 21-22, 2012 at Jacksonville University (Dolphin Beach Volleyball Complex).

Following its debut at Stetson, FGCU’s next sand volleyball action comes Mar. 24-25 at the Florida State Tournament. The Eagles makes their home debut in the sport Mar. 30 against Stetson at the FGCU Sand Volleyball Complex.
