FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast sand volleyball team heads to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in its first-ever tournament on Saturday and Sunday at FSU’s Seminole Sand Volleyball Complex.
The Seminoles, Southern California and Stetson round out the field for the two-day event that features flighted team dual matches on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. and a pairs event on Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
Holly Youngquist (Estero, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS) and Karina Mambuca (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) will play as FGCU’s No. 1 this weekend, while Kaitlin Holm (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Marshall) and Jill Hopper (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown HS) will play at the No. 2 spot. Brooke Kohler (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter HS/Clemson) and Brittany Muse (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto County HS) enter the contest as the Green and Blue’s No. 3 pairing. Rounding out FGCU’s team this weekend will be Olivia Mesner (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River HS) and Lindsey Childs (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./South Plantation HS) at No. 4 and Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) and Whitney Masters (Muncie, Ind./Wapahani HS) in the No. 5 spot.
Exhibition matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, as well.
USC will face Stetson at 11 a.m. on Saturday, followed by Florida State vs. FGCU at approximately noon. All four teams are scheduled to face each other throughout the day.
The top 10 seeded pairs following Saturday's dual play will compete in a double-elimination "Gold Division" bracket on Sunday. The bottom 10 teams will play in a single elimination "Silver Division" bracket.
