FORT MYERS, Fla. – After leading FGCU at the inaugural Atlantic Sun Sand Volleyball Championship, senior Holly Youngquist (Estero, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS) was named to the Atlantic Sun’s Academic All-Conference team the league office announced on Friday, May. 4.

Youngquist, the 2011 A-Sun Preseason Libero of the Year (indoor) and three-time A-Sun All-Academic honoree, has enjoyed a great career as both an indoor and sand volleyball student-athlete. She currently ranks fourth in the A-Sun Conference record books with 1,652 career digs. The Estero, Fla. native led FGCU in digs (466; 4.16 per set), while ranking third in assists and fifth in service aces. Earning a 3.82 cumulative GPA in resort and hospitality management, the libero is the lone Eagle to earn both indoor and sand volleyball A-Sun All-Academic honors.

Youngquist played in all 11 of FGCU’s sand volleyball matches this season. The 2010 ESPN Academic All-District 3 second team selection, who played at the No 1 position with sophomore Kaitlin Holm (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Marshall) for the inaugural sand season, lost in the finals of the No. 1 flight at the inaugural A-Sun Championships.

The A-Sun introduced the new sport-by-sport Academic All-Conference teams this fall to recognize student-athletes who embody the conference’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better and participated in at least half of their team’s games.
