DUNK CITY, Fla. – The FGCU Athletics Development Office is pleased to announce that the 4th Annual “Night at the Nest” gala that will be held this coming Sunday, Dec. 8, at Alico Arena is sold out. Designed to both show appreciation to the Eagles’ donors, as well as raise external resources for the Athletics Department, this year’s event, presented by the Seminole Tribe of Big Cypress and Willow Street Advisors, reached the capacity of 700 reserved spots.

The semi-formal features a cocktail reception, dinner and live and silent auction items, with doors opening at 5 p.m. FGCU coaches will be in attendance, and Eagle student-athletes will be the servers for the function.

A comprehensive list of the extensive auction items can be found at the top of this release or by clicking here. For those unable to attend, proxy bids are being accepted by calling Director of Athletics Advancement Graham Diemer at (239) 590-7107 or by email at GDiemer@fgcu.edu.

Two-time MLB All-Star Chris Sale – the 2010 National Collegiate Player of the Year for FGCU – will once again be in attendance at the event, giving attendees a chance to interact with one of the best pitchers in the sport. A southpaw with the Chicago White Sox, Sale – who earned the win for the American League this past summer in the All-Star Game – led the AL in complete games (4) last year, while finishing 3rd in WHIP (1.07) and 7th in ERA (3.07). He finished 6th and 5th, respectively, in the Cy Young voting the last two years; the award given annually to the best pitcher in each league.

“Night at the Nest” has grown each year from 300 attendees in its inaugural 2010 showing to 550 last year. With the help of the generosity of companies and individuals from Southwest Florida, a record $162,000 was raised for FGCU Athletics last December.

The gala is FGCU’s signature fundraising affair, with all proceeds going directly to support the Green & Blue’s scholarship needs and operating budgets. Organized and promoted by the Eagles Club Board of Advisors, the official volunteer organization created to support FGCU Athletics, the goal for the 2013 event is $200,000.

The Seminole Tribe of Big Cypress and Willow Street Advisors are both platinum sponsors. In an effort to encourage Seminole High School graduates to attend college, the Seminole Tribe is entering its third year of partnering with FGCU Athletics. Willow Street Advisors, which was a recipient of the 2013 Best Practices Award by Investment News, is sponsoring the event for the first time.

Chris Bray, the Managing Director – Florida, is excited about the new partnership with FGCU Athletics. "We are honored to be able to support FGCU and we are grateful for all of the great contributions that the FCGU community has made to Southwest Florida."

While there will not be a keynote speaker this year, the honor has previously been held by several influential individuals who are highly visible in the national athletics community. Former US Ryder Cup Captain golfer Paul Azinger, Ohio State head football coach Urban Meyer and Sale have each filled this role in the first three years.

“Night at the Nest” is a celebration of all the accomplishments of FGCU Athletics’ coaches and student-athletes, including a record 3.30 cumulative grade point average from the Spring of 2013, capturing a sweep of the Atlantic Sun Conference’s 2012-13 All Sport Trophies (Men’s, Women’s and Combined), and witnessing six teams earn conference titles and five programs represented in the NCAA postseason in the Eagles second such year of eligibility – including the men’s basketball team becoming the first No. 15 seed to ever reach the Sweet Sixteen.

The FGCU Eagles are proud to be Southwest Florida’s Hometown Team and part of the A-Sun Conference with six men’s and nine women’s Division I intercollegiate programs.
