DeLAND, Fla. – The FGCU sand volleyball team will travel to Stetson University on Friday, Mar. 21 to begin Atlantic Sun conference play.  The Eagles will face Jacksonville University and Stetson University on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 22 at the Stetson Sand Volleyball Courts.

The Eagles look to recover from a 3-2 loss to Florida Atlantic University at home this Tuesday. First serve for Friday’s match against Jacksonville is set for 12 p.m., with the match against Stetson will follow at 4 p.m. Saturday’s matches will begin with Jacksonville at 9 a.m. and follow with Stetson at 11 a.m.

“The team is looking forward to this weekend as we enter into conference play,” said head coach Matt Botsford. “We know that Stetson is extremely talented based on our first event of the season, and we expect Jacksonville to be competitive as well.”

FGCU holds a record of 1-2 in team dual matches.  The no. 1 pair of senior Kaitlin Holm (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers High School/Marshall) and junior Whitney Masters (Muncie, Ind./Wapahani High School) has consistently led the Eagles with wins in two of their three dual matchups.

“For us to be successful, the girls know we must continue to progress in our game management, and improve the quality of our first contact.  Much of the training recently has been geared toward those areas, so as a coach, I look forward to seeing the results of our training,” Botsford continued.

Stetson comes into the weekend with a record of 6-0. The Hatters went 4-0 last weekend at UCF’s Ron Jon Beach ‘N Boards Fest in Cocoa Beach, Fla. after opening the season with wins over Tulane and Warner in the season-opening event that also featured FGCU.

Jacksonville will enter the weekend with a 1-8 record after going 0-4 at the Ron Jon Beach ‘N Boards Fest.  The Dolphins started the season 0-4 before defeating FAU two weeks ago.

Following the weekend matches, the Eagles will travel to Miami for the FAU Pairs Tournament on Tuesday, Mar. 25.
