Womens Swimming and Diving Kicks off Inaugural Season this Weekend
Fort Myers, Fla. - The FGCU women’s swimming and diving team set to host the University of Miami this weekend to begin the program's inaugural season at the FGCU/Lee County Aquatics Center. The inaugural meet will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday morning, admission is free to everyone.
In their first meet of the inaugural season the Eagles will no doubt be challenged. The Eagles take on the Hurricanes, who saw their women finish 19th overall last season. The Hurricanes had four members, Britta Boesing, Heather Bounds, Nancy Gajos and Brittany Viola named to the All-ACC Academic Swimming and Diving team.
The Eagles consist of two junior transfers, and 20 freshmen. Neal Studd, the first ever head swimming and diving coach at Florida Gulf Coast University has set the bar high. Neal Studd spent eight seasons with the Florida Atlantic University swim staff, rejoining the team in the fall of 1999 after a successful one-year stint with the Wall Street firm of Morgan Stanley and an outstanding collegiate swim career at FAU.
The Eagles are a member of the Costal Collegiate Swimming Association. The CCSA has 12 total members – 12 women’s swimming and diving teams and six men’s swimming and diving programs. The charter members of the CCSA in women’s swimming are Campbell (A-Sun), College of Charleston (SoCon), Davidson (SoCon), Florida A&M (MEAC), Florida Gulf Coast (A-Sun), Gardner-Webb (A-Sun), Georgia Southern (SoCon), Howard (MEAC), North Carolina A&T (MEAC), North Florida (A-Sun), Radford (Big South) and VMI (Big South).
