Eagles Defeat Saint Louis University in FGCU Invitational
Fort Myers, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University Swim Team defeated Saint Louis University Saturday morning by a score of 108-66 in the FGCU Invitational. Coming into the meet, the Billikens were ranked higher than the Eagles in the Mid-Major Poll, but FGCU was able to defeat Saint Louis with ease.
The Eagles got off to a running start in the 200 meter medley relay when they took first and second with times of 2:08.54 and 2:13.82 respectively. FGCU took control of the meet and never looked back as they won the first seven events. Freshman Rachael Rein (Oviedo, Fla.) led the way in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:13.78. Rein was followed by freshman Taylor Cooke (Homosassa, Fla.) and junior Courtney Gallo (Lake Worth, Fla.) to secure the top three spots in the race for the Eagles.
The Eagles once again took the top three spots during the 200 meter IM when freshman Corianna Lallier (Woodbury, Minn.) won with a time of 2:35.08. Freshmen Catrina Silveria (Doral, Fla.) and Viktoira Hyddmark (Lund, Sweden) finished second and third respectively with times of 2:36.52 and 2:36.53
The Eagles will be in action Sunday morning at 11:00 A.M. in Naples when they faceoff against Penn State and Indian River Community College.
