Swimming & Diving in 2nd After Day 1 at CCSA Championship
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C., - The FGCU women’s swimming and diving used a dominating performance in the 200 Individual Medley to finish the first day of the Costal Collegiate Swimming Association in 2nd place with 205 points. The Eagles trail Davidson, the day one leader, by 16 points. In addition to the sweep in the 200 IM, the Eagles also won the 500 freestyle and the 400 Medley Relay.
“We are excited to have finished day one in second place,” said Assistant Coach Elizabeth Lykins. “We had a very solid day and a dominating performance in the 200 Individual Medley. Today was a good day for us and our team is looking forward to competing on Friday and Saturday.”
The Eagles swept the top three spots of the IM as Viktoria Hyddmark won with a time of 2:07.45. She finished just ahead of teammates Rachael Rein and Katie Oke who swam the 200 IM in 2:07.66 and 2:08.31 respectively. The Eagles also took the top spot in the consolation as Rae-Lynn Sheffield swam a 2:10.69. The Eagles also grabbed 14th and 15th as Cori Lallier and Katy Loubris touched the wall at 2:13.19 and 2:13.57. In the event, the Eagles took six of the top 15 spots.
Courtney Gallo won the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:58.76 while Taylor Cooke placed seventh with a time of 5:05.12. In the 200 Freestyle Relay, the team of Rae-Lynn Sheffield, Taylor Cooke, Kris Pomerleau and Rae Conroy finished fifth with a 1:38.13. In the 400 Medley Relay, the Eagles team of Hyddmark, Lallier, Rein and Catrina Silveria won with a school-record 3:51.88.
The Eagles also turned in a strong performance in the 1Meter Diving. Karmin McNamara finished second with a 221.50 while Sarah McCollough and Gabby Shaw posted scores of 197.45 and 202.85 respectively. McCollough placed seventh while Shaw grabbed ninth.
