Eagles Defeat North Florida, Improve to 2-0 in CCSA
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FGCU swimming & diving team handed CCSA rival North Florida its’ first loss of the season on Wednesday, 181.5-116.5. With the win, the Eagles improved their dual meet record to 7-3 on the season, 2-0 against CCSA opponents.
Viktoria Hyddmark (Lund, Sweden) dominated the competition in her three events, the 200 medley relay, the 100 back, and the 200 back. Hyddmark swam the opening leg of the 200 medley relay in 28.58, helping the Eagles’ “A” team to a first-place finish in the day’s first event in a time of 1:49.27. Hyddmark then won event four, the 100 back, finishing in a time of 59.67. Later in the day, in event 10, the 200 back, Hyddmark claimed her third win, recording a time of 2:06.60.
Margie Chamberlin (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) also had a strong showing for the Eagles on Wednesday. Chamberlin finished first in her first event, the 200 fly, winning by almost four seconds (2:05.68) over the second-place finisher (2:09.60), FGCU’s Danielle Butler (Orangeburg, N.Y.). Then, in the 100 free, Chamberlin earned a third-place finish with a time of 54.96. Chamberlin took home her second individual win for the day in the 100 fly (58.77), again edging out Butler (59.53). Chamberlin wasn’t done, as she swam the opening leg in the 200 free relay in 51.06, helping FGCU team “A” to a second-place finish in the day’s last event in a time of 1:39.92.
Myriam Plante (Sainte-Foy, Quebec) picked up a pair of wins for the Eagles, winning the 200 free (1:56.17) and the 200 IM (2:06.79). FGCU divers also came out on top in both events, with Gaby Shaw (Boynton Beach, Fla.) winning the 1-meter competition (222.60) and Kamryn McNamara (Tampa, Fla.) winning the 3-meter competition (252.83).
The Eagles will now spend a few weeks in preparation for one of their biggest meets of the year, the 16th annual Miami Invitational, hosted by Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. FGCU finished fourth at the event in 2007 and improved to second place last year. The three-day competition begins December 3rd and wraps up December 5th.
