Eagles Down Highlanders, Improve to 3-0 in CCSA

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU swimming & diving team improved to 3-0 in CCSA competition with a 174-76 victory over the Radford Highlanders at the FGCU Aquatics Center. Vicky Cadge, Myriam Plante, and Leah Daniel each won a pair of events for the Eagles.

The Blue and Green (8-3 overall, 3-0 CCSA) started strong, sweeping the opening event, the 200 medley relay. FGCU would continue to dominate Radford, placing first, second, and third in each of the first eight events.

Leah Daniel (Winnipeg, Manitoba) won the 200 free (1:56.55) and the 500 free (5:11.58) for the Eagles. FGCU’s Vicky Cadge (Long Melford, Suffolk, United Kingdom) won the 100 back (59.44) and the 100 free (53.33). Cadge also swam on the first-place finishing teams in the in the 200 medley relay (1:50.40) and the 200 free relay (1:42.28). Myriam Plante (Sainte-Foy, Quebec) picked up victories for the Blue and Green in both the 100 breast (1:08.01) and the 200 breast (2:25.41), as well as the 200 IM (2:10.85).

FGCU continued to dominate throughout the rest of the meet, as eight different Eagles won individual events. Kristen Potter (Rockledge, Fla.) won the 1000 free (10:43.60) and placed second in the 50 free (25.32). Kori Golden (Glen Burnie, Md.) won the 50 free (25.11) and placed second in the 100 free (54.89).

With the win, the Eagles have now won five consecutive dual meets. Radford drops to 1-7 overall and 1-4 in CCSA competition.

FGCU returns to action this Friday with a quad-meet in Statesboro, Georgia, against three CCSA opponents. Georgia Southern, North Florida, and Gardner-Webb will all be participating in the event, which starts at 6:00 p.m. The Eagles land back at home on Saturday, January 23, for their final home meet of the season. FGCU will take on in-state rival Florida International in a dual meet scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. That will also be Senior Day, when the Eagles will honor lone senior Margie Chamberlin, as well as unveil the 2008-09 CCSA Conference Championship banner.
