Swimming & Diving Adds Goe as Diving Coach
FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU women’s swimming coach Neal Studd announced the addition of Andrew Goe as the diving coach for the two-time Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) champions. Goe joins the Eagles after two seasons at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y.
"I am so excited to have Andy join my staff. We had many good candidates, but Andy was exactly what we were looking for,” said Studd. “He has a lot of experience at the Division I level and did a great job with his former divers. He is full of enthusiasm and the future for our divers looks very bright."
During his time at Canisius, Goe coached both the men and women divers and assisted in travel planning, skill development and conditioning. Under Goe’s direction in 2009 and 2010, several women divers placed into the MAAC Championship finals on the 1-meter and 3-meter dive board. Goe also coached a Canisius diver who broke the school’s 3-meter, 11 dive record in 2009 and another who went on to place in the top eight in the 1-meter at the Eastern College Athletic Conference meet.
This summer, Goe served as a diving official for the Empire State games in addition to directing summer diving clinics. In his 14 years of experience, he has coached several divers to middle school, high school and conference records and founded two diving clubs for ages 10-18.
“I am incredibly honored to be joining the FGCU family,” said Goe. “My goal is to continue to build upon the success that coach Studd and coach Lykins have established. I'm excited to be a part of this institution that has excellent academics, a solid program, great coaches, and top tier divers.”
At FGCU, Goe will work with five divers, including a pair of the CCSA’s top divers in seniors Karmin McNamara (Tampa, Fla./Gaither) and Gaby Shaw (Boynton Beach, Fla./Park Vista). McNamara was named the 2010 CCSA Most Outstanding Diver after winning gold in both diving events, while Shaw placed second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter at the conference meet last season.
The Eagles host their annual Blue/Green scrimmage on Saturday, Sept. 25 at the FGCU Aquatics Center before opening their season in Gainesville at the All-Florida Invite on October 1.
