Swimming & Diving Still in Fourth Place at All-Florida Invite

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The FGCU women’s swimming & diving team concluded day two at the All-Florida Invite and held on to its fourth place standing with 371 points. Host school Florida, the reigning national champion, continues to hold the first-place spot with 699 points, while Florida State (625.5) and Miami (551.5) remain in second and third, respectively.

Junior Vicky Cadge (Long Melford, Suffolk, U.K./Kelly College) once again had a solid performance with a seventh-place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:30.00 and finished in eighth in the 100 back (59.57). Freshman Nikki Hansen (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) clocked in at 4:44.24 for a fifth-place finish in the “B” final of the 400 IM, while classmate McKenzie Cassidy (Lehigh Acres, Fla./Bishop Verot) (4:45.47) placed sixth.

Freshmen Jessie Porter (Chorleywood, Hertforshire, U.K./Royal Masonic) and Lindsey Meeder (Boynton Beach, Fla./Park Vista Community) saw successes in their first collegiate meet. Porter placed fourth in the “B” final in the 100 fly with a time of 58.89 and an eighth-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.53. Meeder also picked up two third-place finishes in the “B” finals of the 200 free (1:56.01) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.25).

Senior Viktoria Hyddmark (Lund, Sweden/Polhemskolah) (1:02.04) and Hansen (1:02.19) also competed in the 100 backstroke, finishing in fourth and fifth of the “B” final, respectively. In the 100 fly, junior Danielle Butler (Orangeburg, N.Y./St. Bonaventure) (57.55) earned seventh, while classmate Alessandra Cianci (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) (58.26) finished first in the “B” final. The 200 medley relay of Cadge,Butler, junior Myriam Plante (Sainte-Foy, Quebec) and freshman Christina Tanninen (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) picked up a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:48.62. Finishing just behind them in seventh place was the ‘B’ relay team of Hyddmark, Cianci, Kelli Novak (Castalian Springs, Tenn./Marshall) and Isabela Mills Pinto (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Universidade Amembi Morumbi) with a time of 1:51.44.

Day two of the meet finished with the 800-yard freestyle relay with the team of Meeder, Porter, Cadge and junior Leah Daniel (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Grant Park) earned a fifth-place finish after touching in at 7:39.75.

The final day of competition begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
