Swimming & Diving Fall to Miami, Florida State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The FGCU women’s swimming & diving team faced off against ACC foes, Florida State and Miami at the Morcom Aquatics Center on Saturday morning. FGCU fell to Florida State, 213-87, while also dropping its meet to Miami, 174-126.
The 200 yard medley relay team of juniors Vicky Cadge (Long Melford, Suffolk, United Kingdom/Kelly College) and Danielle Butler (Orangeburg, N.Y./St. Bonaventure), sophomore Dani Beaubrun (Vieux Fort, St. Lucia/The Bolles School) and freshman Christina Tanninen (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) opened the meet with a third-place finish with a time of 1:46.22.
Individually, Cadge earned first in the 200 breast and 200 IM, while picking up second in the 100 back with season best times. In the 200 breast, Cadge finished with a time of 2:18.33, taking a full nine seconds off her time. Her time of 2:03.95 in the 200 IM was two seconds better than her time posted against FAU (Oct. 9) and in the 100 back, she finished at 56.72, just behind first-place finisher Stephanie Sarandos (56.32) from Florida State.
In the distance events, junior Leah Daniel (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Grant Park) picked up points for the Eagles. In the 500 free, Daniel clocked in at 5:02.34 behind two swimmers from Florida State and touched the wall at 1:53.49 in the 200 free, again behind two Seminole swimmers. Finishing right behind Daniel in the 200 free, freshman Jessie Porter (Chorleywood, Hertforshire, United Kingdom/Royal Masonic) clocked in at a season-best 1:53.72, while classmate Lindsey Meeder (Boynton Beach, Fla./Park Vista) also swam a season-best with a time of 1:55.54.
After competing in the Goodwill games earlier in October, Beaubrun was back in full force for the Eagles finishing in third in the 100 breast ahead of two Florida State swimmers. She clocked in at 1:05.32, which currently tops the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association’s top times for that event. Sophomore Regina Rodriguez (Mexico City, Mexico/The Bolles School) swam a season-best 1:07.84 in the same event.
Junior Alessandra Cianci (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) finished first in a trio of Eagles who beat the Miami swimmers in the event. Cianci shaved a second off her time from the FAU meet to finish second in the 200 fly with her fastest time this season, clocking in at 2:04.82. Porter, who posted a season-best 2:07.03 in the event, and Butler (2:09.22) both finished ahead of the Hurricanes.
In diving action, seniors Karmin McNamara (Tampa, Fla./Gaither) and Gaby Shaw (Boynton Beach, Fla./Park Vista) and freshman Alex Valder (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) posted season-high scores of 250.85, 232.00 and 226.42, respectively, in the 3-meter competition.
