Swimming & Diving Receives Votes in Top 25 Poll
Friday, December 17, 2010

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Following its strong finish at the Georgia Tech Invite in November, the FGCU swimming & diving team received five Top 25 votes in the TYR / CSCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Poll announced on Thursday.

“I am really excited that our team is getting noticed nationally for the top poll in our sport,” said two-time Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Coach of the Year Neal Studd. “We have worked very hard and hope to keep improving. I am particularly happy for the girls and our seniors who have seen this program grow from the beginning and are now being given consideration as a top 25 program.”

The Eagles are one of 68 women’s teams to earn votes with Stanford and Georgia taking the top two spots. The next poll will be released on January 17.

Despite missing the performances from one of the its top swimmers Vicky Cadge (Long Melford, Suffolk, United Kingdom/Kelly College), FGCU finished eighth in Atlanta ahead of Big Ten foe Michigan State. The Eagles came up just short against ACC teams N.C. State, Georgia Tech and Clemson who finished fifth sixth and seventh, respectively.

FGCU closes out 2010 with a home meet against North Texas on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the FGCU Aquatics Center. The Eagles then take a break until January 8 when they host a quad meet against CCSA foes Georgia Southern, Liberty and Radford.
