Porter, McNamara Earn Weekly CCSA Honors
FORT MYERS, Fla. - FGCU freshman Jessie Porter (Chorleywood, Hortforshire, United Kingdom/Royal Masonic) earned the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association's (CCSA) Swimmer of the Week award, while teammate senior Karmin McNamara (Tampa, Fla./Gaither) has been named the CCSA Diver of the Week for meets completed Dec. 13-19, it was announced today by the conference.
The award is the fourth for the FGCU swimming team as junior Vicky Cadge (Long Melford, Suffolk, United Kingdom/Kelly College) earned three and classmate Alessandra Cianci (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) won the other. It is the third weekly diving award for the Eagles as McNamara won the award after the All-Florida Invite and classmate Gaby Shaw (Boynton Beach, Fla./Park Vista Community) also picked up the honor.
Porter won every event she competed in, helping the Eagles to 205-95 win over North Texas on Saturday. Porter swam 2:11.26 in the 200-meter freestyle and 4:36.80 in the 400-meter free. She also helped the 400-meter relay team finish with a time of 4:06.78. The times were in long course meters.
McNamara earned her second diver of the week honor after winning the 3-meter event with a season-best score of 281.19. With the score, she is the second CCSA diver to qualify for NCAA Zone Regional Meet. McNamara also took third in the 1-meter event with a score of 234.50.
The Eagles open 2011 with a quad meet against Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association foes Georgia Southern, Liberty and Radford on January 8 at 11 a.m. at the FGCU Aquatics Center.
