Svensson, Collins Earn Weekly CCSA Awards

FORT MYERS, Fla. – After their performances against Boston College and Maine last weekend, FGCU swimming freshman Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) has been selected for the second time this season as the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Women’s Swimmer of the Week, while freshman teammate Cayla Collins (Largo, Fla./Osceola HS) has been named as the CCSA Women’s Diver of the Week, ending on November 7. This marks the third time FGCU has swept the weekly CCSA accolades.

Svensson swam multiple events against Boston College and Maine, coming away with three individual wins in the 50 free (23.86), 100 free (51.98) and the 200 IM. In the 200-yard medley relay, Svensson swam the third leg with a 50 fly split time of 24.17, faster than any competitor, helping the team finish first with a time of 1:47.98. She finished the meet with four first place victories, including a win in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.00.

Collins started off with a second place finish in the 1-meter dive against Boston College and Maine with a score of 236.85. She also participated in the 3-meter, placing second with a score of 237.6 points. It is the Largo, Fla. native’s first CCSA Diver of the Week award.

The Green and Blue are back in the pool on Friday, November 18, as they head to the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. from Nov. 18-20.
