FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU head swimming & diving coach Neal Studd announced the signing of Sara Hamilton (Stonehaven, Scotland/Stonehaven), the No. 48 ranked Division I recruit according to CollegeSwimming.com, to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) for the 2012-13 season on Tuesday.

Hamilton has a power ranking index score of 2.80 on the website. The score is based on a recruit's times being assigned a value based on their percentile rank among other high school swimmers. The score is calculated from a weighted average of at least two of these times. The posting of additional times (up to five total) can improve a swimmer's score.

“Sara is going to be a great addition to our program. She has some versatility and we can really start putting together some big time relays,” said Studd. “She is a full senior Scottish International and was a semi-finalist at the Commonwealth games. I am really looking forward to working with her and she will be major asset to the program.”

Hamilton was a semi-finalist in the 2010 Commonwealth games, swimming the 100-meter freestyle and the 50-meter free style, while being a part of the 400-meter freestyle relay that took 5th place. In the youth Commonwealth games she earned a bronze medal at the age of 14. Hamilton specializes in the 50 free, 100 free and the 200 free.

“FGCU is somewhere I want to live for the next four years,” said Hamilton via collgeswimming.com. “Their swimming team is really good and they’re swimming well, so I’m looking forward to joining the team.”

The 2011-12 squad currently has a 5-1 dual meet record and is pushing towards its fourth straight CCSA Championship. Freshman Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) has earned three individual NCAA qualifying times in the 50 free (22.54), 100 free (49.49) and 100 back (53.88), while also a part of two relay teams that posted NCAA B Cuts in the 400 free relay (3:24.48) and the 200 medley relay (1:40.77). Junior Danielle Beaubrun (Vieux Fort, St. Lucia/The Bolles School) also has earned an NCAA B cut in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.49.
