FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU freshman swimmer Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) returned home last weekend and earned three bronze finishes at the three-day Swedish Short Course Nationals in Stockholm, Sweden.

Svensson flew to Sweden just two days after the Georgia Tech Invitational to compete in five events at the Swedish Nationals. In the 50-meter and the 100-meter back, Svensson took the bronze title with times of 28.11 and 1:00.43, respectively, while also placing third in the 50-meter fly with a time of 26.63. In the 50-meter free, Svensson placed seventh at 25.45 and fifth in the 100 free at 54.87.

“We are very proud of the way she performed at Swedish Nationals,” said head coach Neal Studd. “I want to give our athletes a chance to compete in international meets and I will support them anyway I can to be successful. After a great performance at Georgia Tech, Svensson was a little tired but still had solid results in Sweden.”

Svensson had an incredible first half of the season for the Green and Blue earning five NCAA qualifying times in the 50 free (22.54), 100 free (49.49) and 100 back (53.88), while also a part of two relay teams that posted NCAA B Cuts in the 400 free relay (3:24.48) and the 200 medley relay (1:40.77). Svensson also was awarded the CCSA Swimmer of the Week three times.

“This was a great experience for me and it was great to see my family,” said Svensson. “The competition at the event was really good so I wanted to see where I stood amongst international talent. Sweden has very talented swimmers in the freestyle so I was pleased with how I finished against them. The last day I was a little tired but finishing with three bronzes shows how hard I’ve been working.”

FGCU will host its first home meet of the season on Jan. 7 against ACC member Georgia Tech, North Dakota and CCSA member Liberty at the FGCU Aquatics Center at 11 a.m.
