Senior Day Highlights Swimming and Diving's Final Dual Meet

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women’s swimming and diving team hosts its final home meet of the season against FIU on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the FGCU Aquatics Center.

The Eagles will be honoring five seniors before the meet for their contributions to the program. Senior swimmers Danielle Butler (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee HS/St. Bonaventure), Victoria Cadge (Long Melford, Suffolk, United Kingdom/Kelly College), Alessandra Cianci (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas), Leah Daniel (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Osceola) and Teri Lytle (Melbourne, Fla./Melbourne Central Catholic) combined to go a perfect 20-0 in Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association dual meets.

FGCU is ranked No. 9 in the CSCAA/CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Division I Swimming Poll and is the only team in the CCSA ranked in the top 25. The 2011 CCSA runner-up Davidson and Liberty were the only other teams in the conference to receive consideration.

Last weekend, the Eagles (10-2) improved their perfect 4-0 CCSA record with victories over UNF (132-102) and Georgia Southern (180-115). The Green and Blue are pushing towards their fourth-straight CCSA Championship. Freshman Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) has earned three individual NCAA qualifying times in the 50 free (22.54), 100 free (49.49) and 100 back (53.88), while also a part of two relay teams that posted NCAA B Cuts in the 400 free relay (3:24.48) and the 200 medley relay (1:40.77). Junior Danielle Beaubrun (Vieux Fort, St. Lucia/The Bolles School) also earned an NCAA B cut in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.49.

FIU enters the meet with a solid 6-3 dual meet record, with wins against CCSA members Campbell, North Florida and Florida A&M. The Panthers have also defeated FAU and Florida Southern as they are preparing for the Sun Belt Championships on Feb. 22-25 in Rockwall, Texas.
