FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women’s swimming and diving team sits in the No. 10 spot in the third edition of the Mid-Major Division I Swimming poll conducted by CollegeSwimming.com.

FGCU is 9-2 this season with out of conference wins over ACC foes Miami and Georgia Tech as well as Sun-Belt opponents Florida International and Florida Atlantic. The Eagles finished the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) regular season with a perfect 4-0 record. This marks the fourth time in program history that the Eagles have gone undefeated in CCSA action during the regular season.

The Green and Blue were ranked eighth in the first edition and 10th in the second edition of the mid-major Division I ranking by CollegeSwimming.com.

The Eagles are the only team from the CCSA ranked in the top 25.

Now in its 11th year, the Mid-Major Rankings serve to provide an objective point system to compare teams’ relative strength in a traditional dual meet lineup. The ranking is available to those institutions that a) are not members of a BCS conference or Mountain West Conference, or b) provide fewer than one-half of the allowable scholarships under the NCAA rules.

The Green and Blue have garnered six CCSA Swimmer of the Week and five Diver of the Week honors in just 14 weeks and have won the most out of any school in the conference. Senior Maegan Butler (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee/FAU) has garnered Diver of the Week three times this season while sophomore Cayla Collins (Largo, Fla./Osceola) received the award in the first week of voting. Sophomore Emma Svensson (Upsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) has garnered Swimmer of the Week, three times while freshmen Jennifer Morgan (Edmonton, Alberta/Harry Ainlay), Julie Leth-Espensen (Vanloese, Copenhagen, Denmark/Falkonergaardens Gymnasium) and senior Eva Lehtonen (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS/Florida) have all received the award once this year.

The Eagles will be back in action Feb. 21st when they travel to Athens, Ga. to compete in the three-day CCSA Championships hosted by the University of Georgia.
