FGCU Athletics has named women's swimmer Emma Svensson and baseball player Michael Suchy as recipients of the Northwestern Mutual Academic Student-Athletes of the Month Award for the month of March.

After landing the Eagles in 32nd place during their historic run at the NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, FGCU’s Emma Svensson and Kira Toussaint were named to the 2014 College Swimming Coaches Association of America D-I Swimming and Diving All-America Teams, announced by CSCAA officials on Thursday.

The FGCU Department of Athletics has become just the third school in the nation to partner with Australian-based calendar communication company ECAL to provide Eagles fans the ability to easily input every FGCU sporting event into their personal calendar on their favorite electronic device.

After advancing to finals in every event they competed in, FGCU’s Emma Svensson and Kira Toussaint capped the Eagles historic run at the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship on Saturday night in Minneapolis. Swimming just three events, the pair from the green and blue accumulated 22 points to place 32nd in the fastest meet in the world of swimming.

After Emma Svensson made FGCU history in day one of the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, day two brought freshman Kira Toussaint the opportunity to make a mark of her own, and that is exactly what she did. Becoming the first from the Green and Blue to stand on the awards podium at NCAAs, Toussaint placed seventh in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking a 51.81.

It took just 22.09 seconds for Emma Svensson to start writing Eagle history in the opening day of the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, and it took 22.33 for her to write it again on Thursday night. Becoming the first from FGCU to compete in final at NCAAs, Svensson placed 12th in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking a 22.33.

Marking the program’s third appearance in as many years, Emma Svensson and Kira Toussaint of FGCU Women’s Swimming and Diving have touched down in The Twin Cities looking to write FGCU history in the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held Mar. 20-22 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Ending the 2013-14 regular season sitting at No. 44 in the CollegeSwimming.com Top 50, the FGCU swimming & diving team will be represented at the NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship for the third-straight year as a record-setting two Eagles were named to the list of qualified swimmers, announced by the NCAA on Wednesday. Selected to compete for the third year in a row is Emma Svensson, joined by team-newcomer Kira Toussaint.
