As the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland get underway this week, a pair of swimmers from FGCU will take to the pool to compete for their respective countries. Junior Lani Cabrera will compete for Barbados while incoming freshman Katie Armitage will swim for the host nation, Scotland.

After advancing to finals in every event they competed in, FGCU’s Emma Svensson and Kira Toussaint capped the Eagles historic run at the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship on Saturday night in Minneapolis. Swimming just three events, the pair from the green and blue accumulated 22 points to place 32nd in the fastest meet in the world of swimming.

After Emma Svensson made FGCU history in day one of the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, day two brought freshman Kira Toussaint the opportunity to make a mark of her own, and that is exactly what she did. Becoming the first from the Green and Blue to stand on the awards podium at NCAAs, Toussaint placed seventh in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking a 51.81.

The FGCU women’s swimming & diving home meets against Liberty (Jan. 4) and Radford (Jan. 14) have been canceled due to emergency renovations needed at the FGCU Aquatics Center. Last month Aquatics Center staff discovered five leaks in the 50-meter pool, which require a complete de-watering to patch.

The Florida Gulf Coast University Womens Swimming and Diving team took second place in the inaugural CCSA Swimming Championships that concluded on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008. Freshman Viktoria Hyddmark, earned womens most outstanding swimmer honors, as well as outstanding freshman honors.

The FGCU women's swimming and diving finished the second day of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association in 3rd place with a total of398.5 points. The Eagles trail Davidson, who continues to lead the Championship with a score of 444, and Gardner-Webb who is now in second with 426.5 points.
