Fort Myers, Fla. – FGCU Women’s Swimming and Diving head coach Neal Studd announced the program’s inaugural schedule today. The Eagles will compete in 10 meets this year and host three at the FGCU/Lee County Aquatics Center.
“I am really excited that so many established D1 programs found room for us in their schedule,” commented Studd. “We are competing against some unbelievable programs, but that is the level that we want our new program to be at. I do not believe in easy schedules. When we go to our conference meet we will have faced some top 20 Division I programs already. Mentally this is will be a good step for us.”
The Eagles open the season on October 13, as they host Miami beginning at 11:00 am. One of the highlights of the schedule will be when FGCU hosts several opponents including Georgia Tech and NCAA qualifier Florida Atlantic, on Saturday October 27. On that same day FGCU will hold a campus wide 10-year celebration. FGCU will also host a home meet on December 29th.
”Our first ever meet is at home against University of Miami on October 13, we are hoping for a big crowd for that,” stated Studd. “Then on October 27, we host Georgia Tech, FAU and Tampa. We are honored to be a part of the 10 year FGCU celebration, so there should be a lot of people taking a look at that one too.”
The Eagles also have trips to Florida State, Miami and FAU scheduled. FGCU also will face Penn State in Naples on January 6. The schedule concludes with the inaugural Coastal Collegiate Swim Association Championships which will be held in Charlotte, N.C. The CCSA will be the conference home for FGCU as the A-Sun does not sponsor swimming and diving. Other league members include Campbell, College of Charleston, Davidson, FAMU, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Howard, North Carolina A&T, UNF, Radford, VMI along with FGCU.
