Viktoria Hyddmark won two events for the Eagles.
Fort Myers, Fla. – The FGCU swimming and diving team defeated the University of Tampa, on Saturday afternoon at the FGCU Aquatics Center to secure the program’s first win.
The Eagles defeated Tampa, 231-62, but were defeated by Florida Atlantic (190-110) and Georgia Tech (183-117). Although they were defeated, the young FGCU swimming and diving team was very impressive against the Owls and the Yellow Jackets.
“It was great to get the program’s first victory by defeating the University of Tampa,” said Head Coach Neal Studd. “We had an impressive performance against FAU and Georgia Tech with a group mainly made up of freshmen. I though we did outstanding. Both Georgia Tech and FAU were impressed with our new team and it’s good to show people that we have FGCU as a competitive swim team now.”
Freshmen Viktoria Hyddmark (Lund, Sweden) and Catrina Silveira (Doral, Fla.) won events over tough competition for the Eagles. Hyddmark won both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke in 58.70 and 2:04.54, respectively. Silveira won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.19.
