CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Florida Gulf Coast freshman Rachael Rein (Oviedo, Fla.) and Georgia Southern junior Nikki Hutchison (Kennesaw, Ga.) have been selected as the CCSA Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for meets competed Dec. 31 – Jan. 7, it was announced today.
Rein led her team to a 2-1 week, including a win over St. Louis, which is ranked 19th in the collegeswimming.com Mid-Major Poll. In the two victories, Rein tallied four first-place victories and finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. In FGCU’s victory over St. Louis, Rein reached the wall first in the 100 (long course meter) freestyle in a time of 1:01.66, which was over two seconds faster then the second-place finisher. She then went on to win the 200 (long course meter) freestyle in a time of 2:13.78 and finished off the meet by leading the 200 (long course meter) medley relay team to another first place finish, clocking in at 2:08.54. Rein accounted for 29 points in the Eagles’ 108-66 victory over the Billikens. In the Eagles’ second victory of the week, Rein finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.50 seconds. She then went on to finish second in the 200-yard backstroke, reaching the wall at 2:06.55 and finishing ahead of all Penn State (ranked 11th in the collegeswimming.com Division I Poll) swimmers. Rein sits in the top five in six events in the CCSA top times.
Hutchison tallied two first-place finishes, helping her team to three victories last week over CCSA foes Gardner-Webb, Radford and Florida A&M. In the 1-meter dive she earned a point total of 197.45 for the first-place finish. She then went on to earn her second first-place finish in the 3-meter dive with 134.85 points. Hutchison sits in the Leauge’s top 16 in both events.
