Tallahassee, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast swimming and diving team combined to defeat Florida A&M, while falling to Florida State on Saturday morning at the Bobby E. Leach Center.
"I thought our team did real well," said head coach Neal Studd. "We had some people really step up, and I can see the hard work paying off. Courtney Gallo swam very well, and Hyddmark proved to be consistent once again.”
FGCU knocked off FAMU 206-12, but fell to the defending Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) champions 151-86. FIU who was also at the meet, did not score against FGCU.
Eagles’ swimmer Courtney Gallo (Lake Worth, Fla.) once again had an excellent meet. The No. 20 ranked (wwww.collegeswimming.com) saw Gallo win the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:21.85. She also finished third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:10.97.
Hyddmark (Lund, Sweden) finished second in the 100 yard backstroke with a 59.51 mark. She also helped the Eagles place second in the 200 yard medley relay.
Rachael Rein (Oviedo, Fla.) finished second in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:55.96 and fourth in the 100 freestyle with a 53.24.
Catrina Silveira (Doral, Fla.) took second in the 100 backstorke with a mark of 1:08.33.
The Eagles will travel to Jacksonville to face the Ospreys of the University of North Florida on Friday January 18th. The meet is scheduled for 2:00pm.
