Boca Raton, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University of swimming and diving team fell to Florida Atlantic, 242-58, Saturday morning at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 7-8 in their inaugural season.
Freshman Katelyn Oke (Exeter, Ontario) had a personal best in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:58.10. Fellow freshman Ashley Ferraro (Mars, Penn.) also posted a strong time in the 100 butterfly with a 1:02.12.
Freshman Corinna Lallier (Woodbury, Minn.) finished the 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.94, and classmate diver Karmin McNamera scored personal bests in the 1m with a score of 247.73 and the 3m with a score of 242.33, earning 5th place in each event. Viktoria Hyddmark was 3rd in the 200 backstroke with a 2:06.42 followed closely by teammate Rachael Rein who earned a 4th place finish with a 1:06.96.
Saturday marked the final regular season meet of the Eagles inaugural season.
"I am really proud of this young group, they came out everyday and gave it their all,” said head coach Neal Studd. “Now its time for them to really step up.”
The Eagles will begin preparation for the 2008 Inaugural Coastal Collegiate Swim Association Championships in Charlotte, NC, Feb. 21-23.
