HUNTERSVILLE, N.C., - The FGCU women’s swimming and diving finished the second day of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association in 3rd place with a total of398.5 points. The Eagles trail Davidson, who continues to lead the Championship with a score of 444, and Gardner-Webb who is now in second with 426.5 points.
"Today was another great day for us, we set school records in both relays today and Viktoria (Hyddmark) continued an excellent weekend,” stated Head Coach Neal Studd.
“We have some of our stronger events tomorrow and we are looking forward to challenging for the CCSA Championship in our first year.”
The Eagles placed among the top in the teams events, the Eagles 200-yard freestyle relay team comprised of freshmen Viktoria Hyddmark (Lund, Sweden), Catrina Silveira (Doral, Fla.), Kristin Pomerleau (Calgary, Alberta), and Rachel Rein (Oviedo, Fla.) placed second with a time of 1:46.48. The Eagles 800-yard freestyle team which consisted of freshmen Taylor Cooke (Homosassa, Fla.), Viktoria Hyddmark, Rachel Rein, and junior Courtney Gallo (Lake Worth, Fla.) finished in second with a time of 7:36.89.
Viktoria Hyddmark continued her impressive freshman season with a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 57.11. The Eagles also took the third spot in the consolation as Kristin Pomerleau swam a 1:01.34. The Eagles also grabbed 14th as junior Vanessa Cox (Bradenton, Fla.) touched the wall at 1:02.04 In the 400-yard IM freshman Katie Oke (Exeter, Ontario) touched in second with a time of 4:29.50.
