FORT MYERS, Fla. - FGCU's Margie Chamberlin (Land O' Lakes, FL) earned CollegeSwimming.com's National Swimmer of the Week for her performance in the first week of the season.
"I am so excited for Margie and for our program. She really came to us in great shape from this summer and that is a credit to her and her club coach Peter Banks at Brandon Blue Wave," said Head Coach Neal Studd. "I knew working with him for the past few months she would be ready to go went she got to FGCU, all the coaches there do a great job!”
Chamberlin established new school and Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) records in the 200 butterfly (2:02.93) and 100 Butterfly (56.96) in leading FGCU to a 162-138 win over Florida Atlantic University. The junior also assisted both the victorious 200 Medley Relay (1:49.15) and the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:33.92).
"Margie still has some areas to improve upon and when she does we could see some really exciting things from her this year," commented Studd. "She has been a good addition to our team and a great teammate. She originally left Florida after high school going north but could not wait to get back, and we were so happy she picked FGCU.”
Chamberlin and the Eagles look to continue their success in the pool with their first home meet of the season against conference foe Campbell University this Saturday at the FGCU Aquatics Center at 11 a.m.
