FORT MYERS - After nearly a month since their last meet, the FGCU Swimming & Diving team made a splash this weekend with overwhelming victories over conference foes, Georgia Southern and Radford University.
FGCU defeated Georgia Southern 184-105 and beat Radford University 207-75 while Georgia Southern rounded out the tri-meet with a victory over Radford University 236-54.
The Eagles were itching to get off the blocks and continued their success throughout the meet. FGCU took the top spot in fifteen of the sixteen total events. Amazingly, the lady Eagles finished one, two, three in half of the events on the day.
The Eagle’s 200 IM Relay team of Viktoria Hyddmark (29.10), Vicky Cadge (28.10), Margie Chamberlin (26.05), and Rachael Rein (24.63) jump started the string off success for the Eagles with a convincing first place finish in the opening event.
Leah Daniel paced the Eagles with three first place finishes (200 Free, 100 Free, 500 Free) while fellow freshman Vicky Cadge dominated the rest of the field with three top finishes of her own (100 Breast, 200 Breast, 200 IM).
While FGCU swimmers were excelling in the pool, the Eagle divers made a splash off the boards sweeping the top three spots in both the 1 meter and 3 meter boards.
Sophomore Karmin McNamara led the Eagles in both diving events with a 1 meter score of 237.65 and a 3 meter score of 260.20.
The Eagles will be back in action next Saturday, January 17, as they play host to UNF at the FGCU Aquatics Center at 11 a.m.
