FGCU Swimming and Diving Collects Post Season Hardware
FORT MYERS, Fla. - After another record breaking season for the FGCU Swimming and Diving team, the final Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) report has been posted and many Eagles were honored with awards.
The Eagles collected three swimmer of the week awards and two diver of the week awards throughout the season and continued their success as thirteen Eagles were named to the CCSA All-Conference team including eight for multiple events and sixteen Eagles were named to the CCSA All-Academic team for their achievements in the classroom as well as in the pool.
Freshman Vicky Cadge and Rosy Murray led the Eagles garnering All-Conference honors for three events each. Cadge not only was named to the 200 IM (2:02.69), 100 Breaststroke (1:03.60) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:18.96) teams but set the top times for all three events throughout the entire CCSA conference which was why she won both Swimmer of the Year and Freshman of the Year for the CCSA 2008-09 Season. Another Eagle freshman, Rosy Murray, swam the fastest time in the CCSA in the 400 IM (4:18.73) and finished with three CCSA All-Conference honors of her own (400IM, 500 Freestyle and 1650 Freestyle).
Freshman Leah Daniel swam faster than any other CCSA opponent throughout 2008-09 in both the 500 Freestyle (4:48.78) and 1650 Freestyle (16:36.14) as she finished the year with CCSA All-conference honors in both events. Daniel also picked up a silver medal in the 200 freestyle at conference champs with a time of 1:48.73.
Four Eagle swimmers finished the year with two CCSA All-conference honors including Rachael Rein (200 IM and 200 Backstroke), Margie Chamberlin (100 and 200 Butterfly), Catrina Silveira (100 and 200 Breaststroke), and Viktoria Hyddmark (100 and 200 Backstroke).
Other Eagles that placed on CCSA All-conference team were Margarete Ulvestad (200 IM), captain Courtney Gallo (1650 Freestyle), Alessandra Cianci (200 Butterfly), Karmin McNamara (1 meter and 3 meter diving boards), Gabby Shaw (1 meter diving board), and Stephanie Young (3 meter diving board).
Not only did FGCU excel in the pool throughout the year, but sixteen of the Eagle swimmers and divers posted a 3.3 GPA or better over the course of the year.
