FORT MYERS, Fla. - FGCU swimming and diving released its 2009-2010 schedule Monday afternoon. The schedule features five home meets, including home tilts against CCSA rival Radford and in-state rival FIU.
"We are looking forward to a very strong schedule taking on SEC and ACC opponents,” said head coach Neal Studd. “Our goal is to give our athletes strong competition to get them ready to win back-to-back conference titles.”
FGCU opens the season on October 3 with a quad meet in Atlanta, Ga., where they will face Georgia Tech, Alabama, and Georgia Southern. Following the Atlanta quad meet, the Eagles will host their first home meet of the season and welcome Miami and Florida State to the Lee County/FGCU Aquatics Center on October 17.
FGCU will then head to Miami, Fla. to face in-state rival FIU on October 24, before returning home to host a tri meet with FAU and Tampa on October 30.
On November 11, the Eagles head to Jacksonville, Fla. to face the UNF Ospreys in their second dual of the season.
FGCU will participate in one major invitational meet in late 2009. The Eagles will participate in the 16th Annual Miami Invite in Oxford, Ohio, December 3-5.
The Eagles begin 2010 at home with a dual meet against Radford (Jan. 12), before heading to Statesboro, Ga. for a quad meet with Georgia Southern, UNF, and Gardner-Webb (Jan. 15-16).
FGCU will wrap up the home portion of their schedule on January 23 when the FIU Golden Panthers visit Fort Myers for Senior Day.
FGCU will conclude its regular season with a dual against FAU in Boca Raton, Fla. on January 30.
The Eagles will defend their 2009 CCSA Conference Championship at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Conference Championships on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. from February 18-20.
