FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU swimming & diving team, currently ranked sixth in the CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Mid-Major Division I Poll, will travel to Oxford, Ohio, for the 16th Annual Miami Invitational this weekend. The meet is scheduled to begin Thursday (Dec. 3) at 6 p.m. and last through Saturday (Dec. 5) evening.
The Eagles, holders of a 7-3 dual meet record, will be participating in the Miami Invitational for the third consecutive year. FGCU placed second out of nine schools last year and fourth out of 16 schools in 2007. This year’s meet will include eight schools: FGCU, Miami University, the University of Cincinnati, Wright State University, the University of Illinois, Denison University, Emory University, and Oakland University. Besides the Eagles, who are sixth in the mid-major poll, Miami University comes in ranked third and Oakland is listed 13th in the same poll.
FGCU has won their last four dual meets, most recently defeating CCSA foe North Florida 181.5-116.5 on November 11. The win improved the Eagles’ CCSA dual meet record to 2-0 on the season. Viktoria Hyddmark (Lund, Sweden) won a pair of individual events and a relay victory, earning CCSA Swimmer of the Week honors. She joins prior FGCU honorees Leah Daniel (Winnipeg, Manitoba), who earned Swimmer of the Week on October 21, and Karmin McNamara (Tampa, Fla.), who earned Diver of the Week on Nov. 5.
