FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU swimming and diving team embraced the spirit of the holiday season by giving of their time to help others. On Friday, December 11, the team took a break from the pool to tutor students at Bonita Springs Middle School.

Each athlete was paired with a student for individual tutoring sessions. While the ladies helped with studying and assignments, they also served as mentors by really getting to know the students.

“It was fun to interact and connect with the kids,” said junior Viktoria Hyddmark. “They did a great job in making us feel welcome.”

Following the study sessions, the swimmers and divers even tried their skills playing a fun game of dodge ball with the kids.

After an afternoon of building relationships with the students, the Eagles are making arrangements with the school to continue mentoring each month.

The Eagle swim team, currently ranked sixth in the CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Mid-Major Division I Poll, will be back in action on January 12 when they host Radford. The dual meet is set for a 3 p.m. start at the FGCU Aquatics Center.
