FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU swimming & diving team added two more weekly awards on Tuesday, as Leah Daniel was named CCSA Swimmer of the Week and Karmin McNamara was named CCSA Diver of the Week, the conference announced this afternoon. This is the second time Daniel has earned a weekly award, and the third weekly honor for McNamara.
Daniel, a sophomore from Winnipeg, Manitoba, propelled the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 record this past week and to an unblemished 6-0 CCSA mark on the year. She began her week by winning the 200 free (1:56.55) and the 500 free (5:11.58) in Tuesday’s dual meet win over Radford. On Friday at Georgia Southern’s quad meet, Daniel won the 1650 free in a time of 17:16.91, seven seconds ahead of the field. She also took second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.81. On Saturday, she concluded her week by winning the 500 free in 5:05.12 and swimming the second leg of the first-place 400 free relay team (3:32.62).
McNamara, a junior from Tampa, Fla., helped the Eagles to a sweep of three CCSA schools at the Georgia Southern quad meet this past weekend. She got FGCU off to a good start, winning the opening event, the 1-meter diving competition, with a score of 245.00. On Saturday, she placed second in the 3-meter event, finishing with a 224.65, just 1.15 out of first-place.
The Eagles wrap up the regular season with a dual meet against cross-state rival Florida International on Saturday, January 23. The meet is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start at the FGCU Aquatics Center. Prior to the meet, lone senior Margie Chamberlin will be honored, as it will be her final home meet as an Eagle. In addition, the 2009 CCSA Conference Championship banner will be unveiled on Saturday. Admission to the public is free.
