FORT MYERS, Fla. – After completing their second consecutive undefeated CCSA season, the FGCU swimming & diving team will close out the regular season at home on Saturday with a dual meet against Florida International University. The meet is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start. Prior to the meet, lone senior Margie Chamberlin will be honored and the 2009 CCSA Championship banner will be unveiled.
The Eagles currently own an 11-3 dual meet record (6-0 in CCSA) and are ranked sixth in the latest CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Mid-Major Division I poll. The Blue and Green swept the Georgia Southern quad meet last weekend, picking up convincing wins over CCSA opponents Georgia Southern, Gardner-Webb, and North Florida. FGCU has now won eight consecutive dual meets dating back to October 17, when they lost to Florida State on October 17. The Eagles only losses this season have come at the hands of schools that are currently ranked (Florida State, 25th) or receiving votes in the CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Division I poll (Alabama & Georgia Tech).
Florida International comes in with a 1-5 dual meet record. Most recently, the Golden Panthers were defeated by rival Florida Atlantic, 135-87, in a dual meet on January 9. Earlier this season, the Eagles defeated FIU, 205.5-92.5, in Miami, Fla. The Blue and Green have won all four match-ups between the two schools all-time.
The meet is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start at the FGCU Aquatics Center. Prior to the meet, lone senior Margie Chamberlin will be honored and the 2009 CCSA Championship banner will be unveiled. Admission is free to the public.
