FORT MYERS, Fla. – After taking first as a part of the 200-yard medley team and in her two individual events, FGCU swimming junior Alessandra Cianci (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) has been selected as the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Women’s Swimmer of the Week. For her performance against FAU, senior teammate Gabrielle Shaw (Boynton Beach, Fla./Park Vista) has been selected as the CCSA Women’s Diver of the Week, ending on October 10.

This is the second consecutive week that FGCU has swept the weekly awards. Last week, Vicky Cadge (Long Melford, Suffolk, United Kingdom/Kelly College) and diver Karmin McNamara (Tampa, Fla./Gaither) earned the honors.

Cianci had a season-best time in the 200-medley relay with a split time of 26.32 in the butterfly leg of the race to help the Eagles defeat FAU on Saturday. She won the 200 fly with a time of 2:05.25, to win it by three seconds, and swam 57.29 to win the 100 fly by one second. Cianci also had a strong performance in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.00.

Shaw took third in the 3-meter with a season-best score of 219.83. She also participated in a 1-meter exhibition and scored 247.50 points, which would have put her in second place. Shaw improved her scores in both events from the first meeting of the season.

The Blue and Green are back in the pool on Friday, October 22 as they head to Tallahassee to square off against CCSA foe Florida A&M. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Morcom Aquatics Center on the campus of Florida State.
