FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) announced that FGCU diving senior Karmin McNamara (Tampa, Fla./Gaither) has been named Diver of the Week as voted on by conference coaches, for the week ending January 16.
“Karmin is starting to get all the dives consistent as we head into the final few weeks before the conference championship,” said diving coach Andy Goe. “She is strengthening the dives she has already done and creating a solid list for February. Karmin really deserves the honor this week.”
This is the fourth time an FGCU diver has won the award and the third time for McNamara. The Eagles also own five swimmer of the week awards as well. Senior teammate Gaby Shaw (Boynton Beach, Fla./Park Vista) was selected as the Diver of the Week in October.
McNamara won the 3-meter with a score of 275.17, which is just six-points less than her season-high of 281.10, against conference rival UNF on January 15. She would have placed second in the 1-meter, scoring 235.05, but FGCU went exhibition in the event.
The Eagles received nine votes in the TYR / CSCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Top 25 Poll just a day before competing against UNF. FGCU is one of 63 women’s teams to earn votes and are ahead of South Carolina, Nebraska, and Villanova.
FGCU is back in the pool on Saturday, Jan. 22 against in-state rival FIU at the Biscayne Bay Campus location at 4 p.m. This is the second time the two teams will compete this season as FGCU defeated FIU 176-112 at the FGCU Aquatics Center in October.
