FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU women’s swimming junior Dani Beaubrun (Vieux Fort, St. Lucia/The Bolles School) and freshman Karen Vilorio (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Elvel School) will be competing for their respective countries in the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico this weekend.
Head coach Neal Studd will also be representing Saint Lucia as the head National Team coach for the second time after coaching the team in the World Championships this past summer in China.
“I am very excited to represent Saint Lucia, it is truly an honor. It will be a great experience for us,” said Studd. “I hope Dani (Beaubrun) can again lower her national record and get the 1:10.7 Olympic qualifying cut for London 2012.”
The Pan American Games welcome athletes from all over the American continent to participate in an international celebration of friendship and sports. The Games are held every four years in the year leading up to the Olympic Games.
Representing St. Lucia, Beaubrun will be competing in 100-meter breaststroke, while Vilorio will be swimming for Honduras in the 400-meter Individual Medley.
Over the summer, Beaubrun finished 19th in the 50-meter breast at the 14th FINA World Championships and Vilorio placed 37th in the 200-meter backstroke.
Both swimmers have contributed to the Eagles’ early success with a 2-1 dual meet record and a third place finish in the All-Florida Invitational this past weekend.
