Swimming & Diving Ranked Ninth in Mid-Major Poll
|
|
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU swimming & diving team was recently ranked No. 9 in the second CSCAA/CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Division I Swimming Poll of the year after including times from the Georgia Tech Invitational back on Nov. 18-20.
FGCU is the only team in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) ranked in the top 25. The 2011 CCSA runner-up Davidson and Liberty were the only other teams in the conference to receive consideration.
The Green and Blue are 5-1 in dual meets this season with victories against FIU (66-44), Miami (151-148), FAU (179-119), Boston College (188-103) and Maine (168-123). The Eagles also performed well in the All-Florida Invitational placing third out of eight teams, while taking sixth out of 10 teams in the Georgia Tech Invite.
Now in its 10th year, the Mid-Major Rankings serve to provide an objective point system to compare teams’ relative strength in a traditional dual meet lineup. The ranking is available to those institutions that a) are not members of a BCS conference or Mountain West Conference, or b) provide fewer than one-half of the allowable scholarships under the NCAA rules.
Future release dates for the mid-major poll are scheduled for Feb. 7 and Mar. 6.
FGCU will host its first home meet of the season on Jan. 7 against ACC member Georgia Tech, North Dakota and CCSA member Liberty at the FGCU Aquatics Center at 11 a.m.
