FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sophomore Emma Svensson (Upsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) of the FGCU swimming and diving team has been named Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Swimmer of the Week for the second-straight week, announced by the league Wednesday. This is Svensson’s second CCSA Swimmer of the Week honor this year and sixth career.
In a dual meet against Radford, she broke pool records in both the 50-yard butterfly (25.79) and the 100-yard IM (59.76). Svensson also was part of the 200-yard medley relay team that took first with a time of 1:52.59.
Last week, she garnered CCSA Swimmer of the Week honors after setting pool records in the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay events as well as winning the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events.
FGCU has earned five CCSA Swimmer of the Week and three Diver of the Week honors in just 13 weeks and have won the most out of any school in the conference. Senior Maegan Butler (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee/FAU) has garnered Diver of the Week two times this season while sophomore Cayla Collins (Largo, Fla./Osceola) received the award in the first week of voting. Freshmen Jennifer Morgan (Edmonton, Alberta/Harry Ainlay), Julie Leth-Espensen (Vanloese, Copenhagen, Denmark/Falkonergaardens Gymnasium) and senior Eva Lehtonen (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS/Florida) have all received Swimmer of the Week accolades.
The swimming and diving team will be back in action January 19, when they travel to Miami, Fla. to compete against FIU in a dual meet. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
