FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sophomore Emma Svensson (Upsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) and senior Maegan Butler (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee/FAU) of the FGCU swimming and diving team have been named Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Swimmer of the Week and Diver of the Week, respectively, announced by the league Wednesday. This is Svensson’s third-straight CCSA Swimmer of the Week honor and Butler’s third Diver of the Week accolade this year.
In a dual meet at FIU, Svensson finished first in three individual events and was part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that also placed first. Svensson picked up individual victories in the 100-yard backstroke (55.46), 100-yard freestyle (51.23) and 100-yard butterfly (56.05).
Butler collected second-place finishes on the one-meter and three-meter board events with scores of 256.72 and 289.12, respectively.
The Green and Blue used 12 first-place finishes to defeat FIU, 168-130 on January, 19.
FGCU has earned six CCSA Swimmer of the Week and four Diver of the Week honors in just 14 weeks and have won the most out of any school in the conference. Sophomore Cayla Collins (Largo, Fla./Osceola) was the only other Eagle to receive the Diver of the Week honors, which came in the first week of voting. Freshmen Jennifer Morgan (Edmonton, Alberta/Harry Ainlay), Julie Leth-Espensen (Vanloese, Copenhagen, Denmark/Falkonergaardens Gymnasium) and senior Eva Lehtonen (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS/Florida) have all received Swimmer of the Week accolades.
The swimming and diving team will be back in action January 23, when they host FAU at the FGCU Aquatics Center at 6 p.m.
